Happy Memorial Day!

My Memorial Day started out with good intentions. I was in for a 12 hour shift at work from 6am-6pm and decided to make it a healthy day. I got up early, got ready, packed a healthy lunch, grabbed my MP3 player and walked to work. Nice and healthy, and I felt good about it. And then along came the American Legion-who also had good intentions. It is a tradition for places to have pancake and other types of breakfasts on Memorial Day before the area parade. The Wadsworth American legion participated in this tradition. They called this morning around 8am and asked if there was anyone here that was unable to leave and was interested in having breakfast delivered. Well, there was an obvious answer to this one! So, they brought over the full breakfast that they were serving for myself and 2 of the officers on duty. Here's what their breakfast included: toast with jam and butter, scrambled eggs, home fries, 2 sausage patties, 2 biscuits with sausage gravy, 3 pieces of bacon. That was in each one! It was more food than I could eat, but I gave it a try ;) And it was good. No, I didn't finish it. I did eat a little more than I should, but hey, I have a walk home after work to work some of the calories off. Well, have a good Memorial Day! Cook out, watch a parade, wave a flag, and remember those who gave their lives for our freedom and independence and say a prayer for those still fighting to keep it.

My new toy!

So I decided I needed another toy to get me occupied.....so I got an MP3 Player. It's cute. I'm still figuring it out. It came with quite a few songs already on it. Enough to keep me content until I have time to put other stuff on it. It's interesting....they put all different types of music on here....urban hits, pop, country, hip hop, classic rock, etc....but no Christian. Hmmmm.....its not like you have to listen to what's already on here, so why not add it? They include all the other types of music....even classical and musical stuff. Most of this music I haven't listened to in 4 years...but I still know quite a bit of it. There's no way to completely avoid it. I surprisingly remember most of the words to the songs! I've decided the hip hop is probably the best to make a list of and use for running. It's has a nice quick beat to keep me moving. They do take all the really bad words out, which is a plus. My hardest thing to figure out right now is the stupid ear plug head phones! I hate these things. I can't get them to ever stay in my ears! I spend more time putting them back in my ears after they fall out than I do listening to music! Can someone let me in on the secret to these stupid things? Maybe my ear is too small. I don't know. Luckily I have regular ones that go over your head....those big huge ones. Oh well, they don't fall off!

So, today was suppose to be my first day on a new schedule at work. I'm now on part 1st shift (6am-2pm) and part 2nd shift (2pm-10pm). And of course, Elisabeth got sick last night, so I had to call off. I was excited to be back on first shift too. That's where I did most of my training. She ended up being not too bad, but I didn't want to chance it. She thought she only had to fart, but was wrong. Yeah...it was not a pretty sight....or smell. She's feeling better now, but her temperature went up a little from last night. Let's hope it's nothing that is going around.

Another new "toy" in a sense that I got was a couple puzzles. I've never been good at puzzles. My dad, brother, and sister all did them and enjoyed it put I get frustrated easy when things don't go as quick as I want. I lack the patience to put a puzzle together if it takes longer than 5 minutes. But, there I was at the thrift store yesterday letting Elisabeth play with the toys when I looked at the lady next to us and she had about 20 puzzles or so in her cart. She said she never use to like them but is now hooked. She started with 24 pieces and has worked her way up to 500. We talked for about 10 minutes and she convinced me to give it a try. Can you imagine the person with the least amount of patience in this world putting together a 300 piece puzzle! I got the border done last night and some pieces on the inside. I think I picked a bad one to start with. It's a scene with a mountain and a little pond and flowers.....a lot of flowers that all look the same! I'm not doing too bad on it though. a lot of guess work. I just can't look at a spot and go oh, I need a piece like this and then actually find that piece! I think if I ever finish it I'll frame it as my first step towards patience. Ha! It's not as bad as I though it would be. I just don't like sitting there looking at pieces that all look the same and fell like I'm not getting anywhere with it. At least with a book I can see how many pages I've read and that I've gotten somewhere with it. It's not like that with a puzzle. Well, this will be an interesting journey. Me and the puzzle and a 4 year old trying to "help" by scattering pieces all over the place....here's another patience moment for me.

Well, hope all is well with everyone. I look forward to hearing from people. let me know how things are going!

Oh, and I'd like for people to give me a list of their 10 favorite up-beat songs so I can add to my work out song list! Thanks.

I'm in training!

That's right....I'm in training for my first 4 mile race. It's on June 22 at 7pm right here in Wadsworth. It's during Blue Tip week (don't ask...you have to live in or be from Wadsworth to know what it is....I still don't get the point.....it's some festival thing with a parade filled with pick up trucks). If you really want to know, check out the website www.bluetipfestival.com Anyways...I have already signed up for the Match Stick 4 mile run. It should be interesting. This will be my first race since 7th grade! I did the "Turkey trot" at Jennings Middle School so I could get out of class. I didn't do too bad. I was like the 12th girl in my grade to finish.

Well, today was my first day of training. I found a schedule on line yesterday that I had to modify from a 5K to a 4 mile and from 6 weeks to 4 1/2. It's hanging up on my fridge with stickers next to it so I can put a sticker after I finish....I know....like a little kid's rewards chart. But hey, it works ;) Yesterday was a "rest" day on the schedule, so I got a sticker! Today was 2 miles. Well, instead of getting my butt out of bed this morning, I said I'd just do it after work to "unwind". HA! Work was tiring today! I was beat, so my "run" was more of a walk/jog/run for a minute/walk. I kept a good pace even when I was walking though. I would have done so much better if it wasn't at the end of a long day. It took me just under 32 minutes. Kinda sad, but my starting point! Although I think my treadmill speed and distance counters are off. When I was out of shape jogging at UA on top of the line equipment, I could WALK at over 4 miles an hour comfortably. On this one, 4 mph is almost full out medium paced jog. I could jog at 5mph at UA and at home that is a run-a tough one. I know I'm not that much worse off now than I was. I even noticed the difference when I was still working out at UA regularly and then at home off and on. It's crazy. I need a pedometer.
My goal for this is to finish and enjoy it. I honestly don't care how long it takes me, as long as I finish and it feel like it was worth it. I'm already excited about the free T-shirt! Another goal I have is to get 5 people to join me. I already have 1 signed up for sure and another who said she'd do it and one person on the fence about it (who wouldn't want to run with me? Besides the fact that i would slow down anyone who has ever -maybe even never-run before?) So, join me!! Here's the site to sign up https://www.signmeup.com/site/reg/register.aspx?fid=GZ2VJK7...it does cost $18 which goes to some charity so they say....and I will be having anyone over to my place afterwards for food and fun. Let me know if you're interested! It's gonna be fun....most of the fun will be watching me look like a fool trying to run, but hey....fun is fun, right?
Well, for now, I'm going to unwind by putting my sticker on my training schedule and watching a few episodes of "Nip/Tuck"; my newest guilty pleasure ;)
And don't forget Relay for Life June 2 9am-June 3 9am at Hudson High School track! It'll be good practice for the Match Stick race! Hope to see everyone at both!!! Oh, and the Stow Firecracker 4 mile run on July 4th! More about that later.

I CAN READ!!

Good news....I can read Harry Potter again!! I took the defective book to Borders in Chapel Hill Mall and talked to the guy working. I showed him where the missing pages were and he was as shocked as I was. He said he would only be able to return the book if they had sold one in the past three weeks (because I didn't have a receipt). He checked and was able to exchange it. I had him check three times that all the pages were there (especially the ones that I had been missing) and it checked out ok. The only downfall was the price printed on the old book and the one on the new book were different....and take one guess at which one was higher! So, I paid a $4 difference to get my missing 30 pages. Oh well. While I was there however, I went ahead and pre-ordered book #7-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The guy said that they will be having a sale the day they come out at midnight.....I told him I'd see him then! I'm debating about getting the book they have about whether or not Snape is good or evil. It's the whole controversy behind the series. (Well, a big part of it, especially once you get into the later books). If I finish the series before the new one comes out I think I'll go ahead and get it and see what theories it has about him. I work all night (until 6am) and if it stays as slow as it has been all day, I'm gonna try and get a few chapters down. I read book #5 a couple months ago, then started all over at the beginning, but I think I'll read 5 one more time before the movie comes out. Anyways....I'm gonna get some things done at work....like watching the end of "Legally Blonde" (LOL....it was on when I got here! I love this movie!) I'll update on things later (possibly even later tonight if I get bored!). BYE!!

My Accomplishment!

Today, I proudly put oil in my car all by myself!! Yay!! The change oil soon light kept coming on and I couldn't get it in to have it changed so I put some oil in to keep it going until I can get it in. Ok, so I did have to call my brother and ask a couple questions about what oil to buy and how much, and ask the sales guy what the numbers on the bottles meant and what numbers I needed, but after that i was on my own. And I did it. I think I put it in the right place...lol.....
Me and Elisabeth are getting ready to go to the Indians game...I'm hoping the rain holds off. We have pretty good seats and I'm excited. We'll see how she does. I bought her a Grady Sizemore tshirt to match mine :) We're such dorks! Well, I'll post pics later (and of Cast Away Bay). Gotta get going to try to miss the bulk of traffic. Bye!!
